Don’t Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth

“Your prayers were answered; you didn’t heed me.” How disheartening if we entered the hereafter complaining to the Lord and he shot that line back.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. I’m certain I’m not the only one who has been praying for an heroic figure to come to the rescue of this great nation. Sometimes we don’t know when our prayers are answered and it is possible to keep praying after the blessing. Well we should keep praying after our prayers are answered but we need to look hard and long at what we are presented with to see the answer or recognize it for what it is. We may get what we ask for but not the way we expect.

Donald Trump is running for president. I listened to his announcement speech and an interview on the Sean Hannity show and found myself asking if I wasn’t too hasty in judging this man as a headline seeker with no intention to run for office. He cried wolf once too often but this time he took the plunge.

For Donald Trump the presidency is not a promotion…in a way it is a demotion…there are many luxuries he will have to forego as president. I can’t say that for many of the others, if any. For every other candidate the presidency is a huge promotion. But when Donald said, extraneously I might add, that he would have to give up a few perks he loves but he loves his country more, it was from the heart.

It is still too early for me to make a decision as to my preference but not too early to eliminate a few I would hate to have to vote for, or wish I didn’t have to. Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and George Pataki would be bench warmers at best for the next Democrat.

People I admire and would vote for but probably not my first choice are Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee.

Donald Trump and Rick Perry strike me as being two patriots who will put the office before politics and have real accomplishments to their credit. Been there done that sounds good to me.

If they run I consider Chris Christie the bottom of the totem, John Kasich acceptable and possibly exceptional and Scott Walker goes to the head of the class.

But listen carefully to what Donald Trump has to say…try not to let his delivery or the comments of pundits who have predisposed opinions interfere with your impression of his content. All of the criticism is hackneyed…few disagree with his opinions and I agree whole heartedly. What are we afraid of? Can taking a hard line on trading partners put us in a worse position than we have been drowning in? Can closing the border and holding Mexico accountable on every level make our relationship worse than it is? Are we really worried that China or Russia will get mad at us if we demand the respect we are entitled to? How can we insult Iran? How can it do harm if we stop trusting an avowed enemy and stop sending money to our enemies?

Of all the candidates who want to create jobs Trump is the only one who tells us where they went and how he’ll get them back…Ditto with our money…Is anyone nearly as qualified as Trump to get it done or as honest in describing the problems?

We might all sleep a little better if the guys who want to kill us go on the defensive for a change…

Donald Trump is beholding to no one in politics or industry. No one gave him a leg up when he was a freshman politician…he never was and from the sound of things never will be…He will run the presidency as our forefathers expected it to be run…A-politically, politically incorrect and fiscally responsible.

He will appease no one and kowtow to no one.

God bless America…
