Jeb Bush: Everyman (For Himself)

No doubt Jeb Bush’s calm exterior and sober, kindly demeanor, his handsome but average-guy persona, his admirable strong family ties, attractive wife and handsome children make him an admired man that exudes confidence and inspires trust. He was a good, mostly uncontroversial governor, who set a positive, moral tone for Florida. One day he would be president and carry on the family tradition of likability, conservative values, good conscience and poor choices. It seems to be a family trait; “read my lips” did not mean believe my words. “The country is in a financial crisis but thank God we have men like Paulson and Cox to see us through” started the decline and set a precedent that Obama doubled down on in spades. Six years later…when Bush is blamed, all we can do is sputter.

Most of the people in our lives, regardless of our admiration and affection, would not make good presidents and neither would Jeb Bush. He would probably do some good on balance, because he’s not a bad guy, just far more politically astute and consumed than we imagine. But what are his decision-making motivators? Why would a true conservative endorse or support Common Core; government regulated education? Fast track trade authority; giving unprecedented authority to the Executive Branch taken from Congress? (Why did the supposedly Republican Senate approve the Bill?) Has Jeb been a forceful unambiguous voice on immigration? When push comes to shove Jeb is likely to accept a compromise on any and all of the above and almost all Conservative issues. So far he’s on the wrong side of these commanding issues, which tells me his liberal wings have not been clipped. There are Rino’s, (Republican in name only), which are an embarrassment and there are Cino’s which are a decided detriment. Jeb is a Cino…(Conservative in name only), perhaps 2 degrees to the right of Christie, a Cino-Rino, who wants to confiscate Social Security…skip socialism and go straight to communism.

I have a sense that Jeb Bush will not fair all that well if he is vetted the way other candidates will be; like a soup chicken in a Jewish chicken market when every cavity is probed, sniffed and eyeballed; only time will tell, but….

These fundamental issues guarantee that another Bush in the White House will perpetuate big government, even while his style of governing is reasonable and he himself is personable and appears to be easy going. Who doesn’t love Papa Bush? His brother George, loved and respected by most in his party, didn’t do us any favors where the economy was concerned. On top of all that, and it is considerable, Jeb expressed his notion that he is willing to swap out Attorney Generals just to move the confirmation process along…an expedience we should never be subjected to. Doesn’t anyone know or care who and what Loretta Lynch stands for? Attorney General Eric Holder has been a disaster but he leaves a legacy of prejudice and arrogance that can be used to the advantage of a succeeding AG who shares his biased views on the American legacy…and Loretta Lynch was nominated to continue the same Obama initiatives of riots for convenience and class punishment and to make a case for federal police in local situations. Jeb Bush’s cavalier attitude to “get on with the confirmation so Congress can get to the more pressing issues of the day” is inexcusable, short sighted and uninformed. If he is elected president in 2016 can we count on him to appoint an attorney general who will enforce the laws as they are written, with due consideration for the intent of the law, respect for the Constitution and not interpret or enforce laws selectively or use the office to create turmoil for political fodder? Only if he sees the wisdom of it.

Should my opinions and Jeb’s past decisions preclude him from running for the nomination? Not at all. But if we want to restore the values and heritage this nation earned the Republican voter had better look elsewhere for a knight in shining armor. This candidate has chinked armor but he still looks like a safe choice; when he is anything but.
